Due to their rare beauty, precious stones were exclusively reserved for a few people of the ruling class and symbolised, above all, the power and influence of their owners.

Today, the availability of these noble stones is significantly greater and precious stones are not exclusively worn in order to demonstrate wealth. Above all, their owners nowadays enjoy them for their natural beauty and harmony. So it is hardly surprising that when buying precious stones, a personal preference for a specific stone is always an important factor.

Rare minerals which impressed with their beauty but which occurred more often then naturally formed precious stones, were previously classified as semi-precious stones. Today they are simply called precious stones or gemstones.
